Beware of Tech Support Scams:

Tech support scams are a common form of fraud where scammers pose as legitimate technical support representatives to trick victims into giving them access to their computers or paying for unnecessary services.

Here's What You Need to Know:

Tech support scammers often use fear tactics, such as claiming your computer has a virus or has been hacked, to pressure you into providing access to your computer or paying for fake services. These scams can occur through various channels, including phone calls, pop-up messages on your computer, or phishing emails. Once scammers gain access to your computer, they may install malware, steal sensitive information, or charge you for unnecessary repairs or software.

Our Recommendations:

• Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Contact: Legitimate tech companies will not contact you out of the blue to offer support or ask for remote access to your computer.

• Never Provide Remote Access: Do not give control of your computer to anyone unless you initiated the contact and are certain of the person's identity.

• Ignore Pop-Up Messages: If you encounter a pop-up message claiming your computer has a virus or other issues, do not click on any links or call any phone numbers provided. Contact a known verified technical support provider for assistance as needed.

• Verify Caller Identity: If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from a tech support company, hang up and independently verify their identity by contacting the company directly using a verified phone number.

• Report Suspicious Activity: If you believe you have been targeted by a tech support scam, report it to the appropriate authorities, such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or your local consumer protection agency.

• Stop the Fraud: If you have given access to your computer or clicked a installed software you shouldn't have, shut down your computer and seek technical assistance from a verified tech support service provider.

Protecting yourself from tech support scams requires vigilance and an understanding of the risks and methods used by scammers. By following these recommendations, you can significantly lower your chances of becoming a victim.
